After making some silhouette variations I pulled bits and pieces from different variations to get a final shape that was used as a base to begin photo bashing to explore details and forms.

Once most forms and details were laid out, I used Plasticity 3d to begin building a 3d model based off the 2d layout.

While modeling some changes were made for functionality and aesthetics that slightly deviated from the 2d layout.

After modeling was finished I exported model to Keyshot for rendering where I used a mix of procedural maps and grunge textures to create slightly worn materials.

Custom decals were designed and created in Photoshop for branding and labeling. Various logos and slogans were explored before settling on the final choices.

Once the branding and labels were decided on they were saved out and imported into Keyshot for placement and rendering.

YellowJacket SMG Breakdown

The goal of this project was to design a sub machine gun for a near future world with almost zero-gun laws and firearms are produced and marketed like everyday products. This weapon is produced by a manufacturer that has a background manufacturing industrial construction equipment and power tools.
I knew I wanted the weapon to have a machine pistol / sub machine form factor, so I started with a rough MAC-10 inspired post it note sketch to layout internal components and figure out some basic functionality.
